How to change the server timeouts in Microsoft Outlook 2010

If you're having problems downloading your email from our server or finding it is timing out, try increasing the server timeout setting in Account Settings. This will give your mail more time to download and may prevent it timing out.

  1. Click Outlook 2010's File tab. Click Account Settings in the area to the right, then click Account Settings in the drop-down list that appears.
  2. Double-click an email account's name in the list to edit its settings. Click More Settings to view the additional account settings.
  3. Click the Advanced tab on the settings window, then locate the Server Timeouts section. Drag the slider to the right to use a longer timeout. As you drag the slider, you can see the amount of time specified for the current timeout setting to the right of the slider.
  4. Click OK and then Cancel to save the new timeout setting for the selected account. Click Close to return to Outlook's main window.
