Remove Unwanted Email by Creating a Rule

Rules can help filter out specific words that repeatedly come from different or hidden email addresses.

  1. Open your Outlook.com Rules and select + Add new rule.
  • Click on settings > View all Outlook settings in the bottom of the panel
  • Click on Mail and choose Junk Email

     2. Every rule needs at least three things: a name, a condition, and an action.


Rules can also contain exceptions to conditions. You can add multiple conditions, actions, and exceptions at each step by choosing Add a conditionAdd an action, and Add an exception

For example, to create a rule that deletes all email with the word "weather" in the subject:
Name = "Weather"; Condition = Subject includes "Weather"; Action = Delete

Tips: 

  • Rules only work on email in your Inbox.
  • If you don't want any more rules to run after this one does, select the Stop processing more rules check box.
  1. Click Save to create your rule.

 

How to stop processing more rules?

  1. At the top of the page, select Settings  > View all Outlook settings.
  2. Select Mail > Rules.
  3. Select  Edit next to the rule to which you want to apply Stop processing more rules.
  4. Select the check box for Stop processing more rules.
